Weapons, Vehicles, Properties & Lifestyle Gear
Everything you can equip falls into a few categories, and every roster in every category is built the same way: no item is a strict trap. For any given price, there's always a reason to own that specific piece beyond "can I afford something better" — a cheap item usually wins hard on one stat against everything pricier, in exchange for being weak on the other.
Weapons & vehicles
24 weapons and 24 vehicles span the whole price range, from a $150 Tire Iron (barely any damage, but out-accuracies guns costing ten times as much) up to $50,000 flagship pieces like the Combat Shotgun or the Custom .50 Cal. Weapons trade PvP attack accuracy against damage; vehicles trade crime-success bonus (grinding, hauling) against PvP rob-success bonus (running a mark down) — plus cargo capacity, which is what caps how much you can carry on a Drug Run. See Combat & PvP Odds for how gear actually applies to your success chance — it tapers, it doesn't stack.
Properties
Owned properties (21 in the roster) are a separate, longer-term investment — they don't touch PvP or crime rolls directly, they're a status and income play rather than a combat one.
Lifestyle gear
A newer category that touches Energy directly instead of combat: gym memberships and the like add a flat bonus to your Energy cap, a percentage bonus to Energy regen speed, or both. You can only run one lifestyle item at a time, so it's a single upgrade ladder rather than a stack — the two flagship options (Personal Trainer, Wellness Retreat) trade cap against regen speed at the top, neither strictly better than the other.
Rarity & loot
Buying at the Dealer always gets you the plain, common version of an item, stats exactly as listed. Two paths can roll a rarer, stat-boosted version instead: a contraband crate (a flat-price Dirty Cash gamble) and a chance on a successful crime, which each crime sets for itself — see Committing Crimes for how to read a crime's loot table off its card. Both are provenance='hot' the moment you get them — the same Heat and seizure exposure as anything bought at the Fence, whether you paid for it or won it for free.
Crates can be switched off entirely by an admin if they ever need to be. Crime drops are unaffected by that — turning crates off narrows how you get rare gear, it doesn't remove it.
A rarer roll multiplies an item's stats above the plain version — up to double at Legendary. Two stats are deliberately left out of that: jail chance reduction and Heat gain reduction are the same on a Legendary as on a Common. Rarity makes your gear stronger; it doesn't buy you out of the law.
What a crate actually rolls
The crate is not a cheap way to buy gear — it's the rarity gamble, and rarity is the one thing the Supplier will never sell you. Every item on their shelves is Common.
Two things define it:
- No junk. Nothing below a set value is in the box, so every crate is gear you'd genuinely consider equipping. You will never open one and find a tire iron.
- The odds are on rarity, not on value. Around 70% of crates come out above Common, and roughly 1 in 7 is Epic or better. Rarity scales an item's stats and its pawn value, so a Rare or Epic roll is a real upgrade over anything bought legitimately.
It is priced to match. You get roughly two-thirds of your money back if you pawn a roll you didn't want, so opening crates costs you something — but what you're buying is the chance at a piece you can't get any other way.
Crates are for gear you'll use, not for making money — see The Dealer, The Fence & Hot Goods for what the Pawn Shop pays on crate goods, and why. And an admin can switch crates off entirely; crime drops carry on regardless.
Crates versus crimes
The two sources do different jobs, on purpose:
- Crimes are the steady drip. Most of your gear comes from here, free, as a bonus on jobs you were doing anyway. Each crime has its own drop table with its own value ceiling, so the bigger the job the better it can drop.
- The crate is the deliberate roll of the dice. More expensive, better odds, and the only place the whole catalog is reachable at high rarity.
