Posting & Collecting a Bounty

A bounty is a price any player can put on another player's head — public, visible to everyone, and collected by whoever actually lands the hit.

Posting one

You need to be Runner rank or above to post, and the minimum bounty is $500 Clean Cash, escrowed from you the moment you post it — that money is locked up, not just pledged, until the bounty is claimed or you cancel it (full refund). You can't post a bounty on yourself or a crewmate, and there's no range restriction: you can put a price on someone you can't currently reach yourself, which is the whole point — paying someone better positioned to finish the job.

Collecting one

Only a successful attack claims a bounty — robbing or sabotaging the target never does, even if it succeeds. Land the hit and you collect every open bounty stacked on that target in one shot, not just the one you knew about, and the payout goes to you, the attacker, never back to whoever originally posted it.

Bounties vs. Hit Contracts

This is the same underlying mechanism the Hit Contracts system builds on — a hit contract is just a bounty where an NPC crew is the poster instead of a player, paid in Dirty Cash and Respect rather than escrowed Clean Cash, with no cancel option since there was never a real player's money on the line. If you see an entry on the Bounty Board with no obvious human behind it, that's an NPC grudge, not a bug.
