Skill Trees & Proficiencies
Skill points come from four background proficiencies that level up passively as you play, no separate grind required.
The four proficiencies
- Larceny — grows from pulling off crimes.
- Muscle — grows from winning PvP (attacks, robs, sabotage).
- Hustle — grows from moving money: laundering, fencing, pawning. Laundering XP scales with the amount cleaned (capped per action), so a real launder earns real XP and a token $10 wash earns almost nothing.
- Nerve — grows from the highest-risk plays: heists, territory contests, jailbreaks.
Each proficiency climbs to level 99 on a steepening cost curve — the last stretch is a genuine long-tail grind, not a quick finish.
Spending points
At set milestone levels in a proficiency (5, 10, 15, and up through 99), you earn one universal skill point, spendable in your specialization's own skill tree. Points bought here are permanent, class-specific upgrades — the mechanism behind things like a Marksman's bounty-reward bonus or a Financier's laundering discount stacking further past their base specialization bonus. There's real headroom: maxing every proficiency yields more points than a full class tree actually costs, so there's no need to min-max just one activity to eventually afford everything worth having.
